Present Perfect Continuous Tense:

The present perfect continuous tense is used to talk about actions that began in the past and are continuing into the present time. We use “have been + V-ing” or “has been + V-ing”.

Present Perfect Continuous Tense

The Perfect Continuous Tense is formed thus:

Subject + have been/has been + verb + ing (affirmative)

  1. I have been attending classes for a month.
  2. He has been attending classes for a month.

Subject + haven’t been/ hasn’t been + verb + ing (negative)

  1. I haven’t been attending classes for a month.
  2. He hasn’t been attending classes for a month.

Have/has + subject + been + verb + ing (interrogative)

  1. Have you been attending classes?
  2. Has he been attending classes?

Time Expressions/Indicators:

For, For hours, For days, Since, All day, All night All week All month All year Recently,  Lately.

Positive Form Sentences:

  • I have been living in Delhi for twenty years.
  • Iam tired because I have been working since morning.
  • Sanjana is getting fatter because she has been eating too much.
  • You have been learning spoken English since 5th June 2023.
  • We have been learning programming for two months.
  • My brother has been working in this company for thirty years.
  • My sister has been learning music since June 2023.
  • The children have been playing cricket since morning.
  • They have been preparing for elections all year.
  • The husband and wife have been arguing for an hour.
  • The baby has been crying since morning.
  • Pavan has been saving money for a year.
  • The has been increasing the rent for 3 years.
  • The dogs have been barking since 2am.

Negative Form Sentences:

  • I have not been living in Hyderabad for 40 years.
  • We have not been watching TV for a month.
  • I have not been cleaning the house for over 3 months.
  • The two families have not been talking to each other for many years.
  • Movies has not been releasing since last year.
  • Schools and colleges have not been functioning since the pandemic started.
  • You have not been learning spoken English.
  • We have not been learning programming for two months.
